Webmaster
Webmasters are people that create and manage a web site. Originally company sites were managed by a single webmaster resource. Today, however, the Internet is much more complex and the webmaster of old has been replaced by a web team for a company of any size. The modern meaning of webmaster is someone who manages the web team both in development and in production.
Webmaster Tips
- Look for a webmaster that understands every aspect of development, not just design and technical considerations.
- Your webmaster resources should have strong project management skills. Web site development tends to have short development cycles requiring coordination of multiple skills, which can be quite challenging for a project manager.
- Often companies higher a webmaster when they would be better served by investing in broader range of outsource skills. If you have a small to mid-sized company where your web site is not the focus of your business consider outsourcing.
- Make sure your webmaster, whether internal or external, understands your company needs, markets, products, customers, and internal processes.
