Choosing a Drupal Theme That's Right for Your Business

Compatibility and requirements are important considerations when determining whether an existing Drupal themes design is suitable for your needs. If you know your Drupal version, you can confirm whether the theme you are considering is usable on your system. To find the version information for you install, go to Administer > Reports > System Reports. There you will find version information. The theme you are considering must be available in the version of Drupal you are running. For example, Drupal 5 themes are often not compatible with Drupal 6 or Drupal 7 themes unless the designer has updated the theme to be compatible. Once you've selected a theme that is compatible with your version of Drupal, you must understand your system requirements - does your theme require any additional extensions to work properly. As an example, a theme that is built off the 960 grid system may have been built as a subtheme from NineSixty's base theme. Check carefully whether the theme you've chosen requires download and install of other extensions or base themes. This information is typically provided before you purchase or download the theme. While there are some adequate free themes on Drupal.org, if your company is brand sensitive or holds styling in high regard, you may find yourself building a custom theme. Most Drupal themes are built to accommodate a wide variety of uses, so finding a theme specific to your business may be a chore. Regardless of your needs, begin searching at Drupal.org. Their theme repository provides a variety of styles and layouts, and may be able to answer some of your questions, or point you in the right direction. Image Credit
