As much as I love the convenience of internet shopping I do get a little weary when it comes to purchasing clothes via internet. Let's face it; unless you are very familiar with a brand or have a perfect physique your chances of anything actually fitting are slim to none. My Virtual Model Inc. has set the standard for online apparel shopping.
The company was co-founded in 1993 by Louise Guay, Ph.D., and Jean-Francois St-Arnaud paired up to create Public Technologies Multimedia (PTM) becoming one of Canada's leading multimedia agencies. By 1997 My Virtual Model was released and three years later PTM formally became My Virtual Model Inc (MVM).
What is My Virtual Model? It is your own personalized 3-D model that enables online shoppers to try on clothes via internet. While personalizing your avatar you can actually upload a picture of your face or you have the option to choose one of theirs. Other options allow MVM users to customize their model by adjusting height, weight (my favorite), bust, hip, thigh, inseam and torso measurements enabling you to see how the clothes will fit. Shoppers can also adjust eyes, nose, lips and hair creating a very virtual you. MVM allows the user to see how a particular item will fit and complement their existing wardrobe.
MVM also benefits participating merchants by increasing revenues while cutting costs. Shoppers using My Virtual Model spend more, buy more and because they can try on their items returns are less frequent. This cuts back on shipping and handling costs for merchants and shoppers don't have to deal with the hassle of shipping items back.
My Virtual model allows users to try on clothes from brand names like H&M, Sears, Adidas and LL Bean. As you can see there are only a handful of companies that have incorporated the MVM concept. Keep your fingers crossed, hopefully the rest of the retail world will catch on.
