Google Latitude - Tracking Friends with a Laptop & Phone

In something out of a conspiracy theory movie, Google is introducing latitude tracking through Google Latitude. This Google Maps tool will let the user track friends automatically, in real time. Currently capable of tracking using a laptop, WinMo Symbian 60, and a Blackberry, soon this will technology will cascade down to the iPhone and Android users (hopefully soon since these early adopters don't like to wait). Google states on their Google Latitude support page as to what phones are supported, Google Latitude is available on the following mobile devices wherever Google Maps for mobile v3.0 and above is supported: - Android-powered devices with Maps v3.0 and above. G1 users in the US will be receiving Maps v3.0 in a system update soon. - Most color BlackBerry devices - Most Windows Mobile 5.0 and above devices. Note: Some Windows Mobile devices don't support cell-ID location detection. - Most Symbian S60 devices Coming soon! - iPhone and iPod touch devices with the Google Mobile App (in the US) - Many Sony Ericsson devices What does this mean in terms of practical application?
