How To Paste Excel Content Into Drupal
I was recently had a client ask if it was possible to paste Microsoft Excel content directly into Drupal and for the life of me I could not answer that question. I've typically pasted content from Microsoft Word or other text editors, but had never tried pasting Excel content. So, is pasting Excel rows and columns into Drupal possible? After a little research and some trial and error, the answer is yes!
Here are the simple steps:
1. Download and install WYSIWYG module from Drupal.org if you don't already have it installed.
Due to time and project budget I haven't really tested whether or not Excel will paste properly without TinyMCE, but I've had various hiccups in the past pasting Word documents without utilizing the "Paste from Word" feature in TinyMCE so I recommend this editor.
2. Configure the WYSIWYG module to use the TinyMCE editor.
Once the WYSIWYG editor is installed and activated it will show up in your list of modules and you will be prompted to select an editor - TinyMCE and configure the features you want to add to that editor. Follow the instructions provided within the module. When asked Make sure you check the Paste From Word checkbox from the list of options.
Note: If everything is configured properly when you add or edit content you should now see a "Word-style" editor that allows you to format content similar to using Microsoft Word.
3. Copy content from Excel.
Simply select the rows and columns you would like to place on your Drupal website and copy them.
4. Paste content into TinyMCE.
Go back to your editor and select the "Paste from Word" icon located within TinyMCE then paste the content into TinyMCE and preview the document. Presto! IF you've followed the steps everything should be formated in the correct rows and columns.
Note: I have not figured out a way to paste graphs from Excel using this method. My recommendation is to copy the graph from Excel into Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or other graphic editing program, save the graphic as a GIF file then upload and place the Graph image like you would any other image.
Good luck and happy Drupaling!
